Description

Our 5 day Salkantay trek combines exciting trails where you can enjoy incredible landscapes such as the Humantay Lagoon, snow-capped mountains and the cloud forest, ending this adventure with a hike through the lush jungle of Cusco and Machu Picchu.

Itinerary

DAY 1 - Cusco - Humantay Lagoon - Salkantaypampa Base Camp (16km approx 7hrs)

Early pick up at your hotel, enjoy breakfast in Mollepata and then start your hike in Soraypampa (3850 masl), where we will meet our muleteers and horses, who will carry all the camping equipment and begin our hike to the Humantay Lagoon (4200 masl).

After the visit to the Humantay lagoon we will return to Soraypampa to start the trek to our base camp Salkantaypampa where our cooks are waiting for you with a delicious lunch, in this place we can enjoy the beautiful views of the snowy Salkantay, and enjoy an afternoon tea and a delicious dinner.

DAY 2 - Salkantay Pampa base camp - Chaullay (18km approx 7hrs)

Wake up with a cup of coca tea and enjoy breakfast with fantastic views of the mountains, then reach the highest point of the Salkantay pass at 4600 masl in 3 hours. From there we will walk to Wayrac Machaq for lunch. We will continue to the high jungle where we will observe large trees with their arms stretched over the streams, all full of bromeliads and orchids. and descent to the 2nd campsite.

DAY 3 - Chaullay - Lucmabamba (16km approx 6hrs)

Wake up early and have breakfast; we start a hike through the cloud forest for 3 hours. Observe the fantastic landscape of rivers and waterfalls; after lunch, 3 hours more you will arrive to Lucmabamba camp where you can enjoy activities in coffee plantations and processes.

* If you wish you can go to the hot springs of Cocalmayo which are located 30 min from our camp (not including transportation or extra entrance fees), please let us know in advance to organize this extra activity.

DAY 4 - Lucmabamba - Llactapata - Hydroelectric - Aguas Calientes (14km aprox 6hrs)

Wake up with an excellent breakfast and start the hike to Llactapata from where you will have an excellent view of the landscape and Machu Picchu, then you will walk downhill to Hidroeléctrica for lunch and continue walking another 3 hours to Aguas Calientes. Tonight you will spend the night in a hotel.

DAY 5 - Machu Picchu - Cusco

After breakfast, we take the buses to Machu Picchu to see the sunrise. Explore the best of Machu Picchu with your private tour guide. Once you finish return by bus to Aguas Calientes where you will have time for lunch before boarding the train and bus back to Cusco.
