Itinerary
We depart from Cusco early in the morning, around 6 am, heading towards the district of Cachora (~5 hs). We start our hike along a gentle trail, capturing the first glimpses of the distant Choquequirao from the Capuliyoc viewpoint. We then begin the steep descent until we reach our camping site at Chiquisca, next to the Apurímac River, where we’ll enjoy our first dinner and spend the night.
After breakfast, we cross the mighty Apurímac River over a recently built iron bridge. We begin our hike, ascending in zigzags for ~2 hs before taking a short break in Santa Rosa.
We continue our ascent until we reach Marampata (where lunch will be served), marking the end of our hike. The site offers restroom facilities and cold showers, with the option for an additional fee for hot showers. The afternoon will be free for us to recharge our energy.
Breakfast is served very early, followed by a short hike to Choquequirao where we will have a guided tour lasting about 1 hour, followed by free time to explore the archaeological park on our own. Finally, we return to Marampata for lunch and then head back to Chiquisca where we’ll spend the night.
On the last day, we start our hike very early to avoid the intense heat during the day, until we reach the Capuliyoc viewpoint. After a brief rest there, we have our farewell lunch and then begin our return journey to Cusco.
• The itinerary may occasionally change due to temporary restrictions at the archaeological park, campsite availability, weather conditions, road closures, guest capacity, and natural events such as fires or floods.
