Humantay Lake is a beautiful glacial lake located in the Peruvian Andes near the Humantay snow-capped mountain. With intensely turquoise waters, the lake is a popular tourist destination and a stunning spot surrounded by breathtaking mountain landscapes. Access to the lake requires a moderate hike, adding an adventurous element to the experience. Laguna Humantay is renowned for its scenic beauty and cultural significance in the Andean region of Peru.
The tour begins with pick-up from your accommodation between 4 am and 4:30 am, heading towards Mollepata, where breakfast will be served. From there, we continue to the starting point of the hike at Soraypampa (3850 m / 12,631 ft). The hike lasts approximately 2 hours (considering individual fitness levels). Here, you have the option to rent horseback riding services (not included). You’ll have free time for taking photographs, approximately 30 to 40 minutes, before beginning the descent back to Soraypampa.
Afterward, we return to Mollepata for lunch following a brief rest. We then head back to Cusco, arriving approximately between 5 pm and 5:30 pm. The tour concludes at Plaza San Francisco, from where you can proceed to dinner or return to your accommodation.
The tour includes round-trip transportation from Cusco to Soraypampa, a professional bilingual guide, breakfast and lunch (with vegetarian options available), and the entrance ticket to Humantay Lake. Everything is organized so you can simply enjoy the experience without worrying about logistics.
No, horses are not included, but you can rent one for an additional cost directly from the local community at Soraypampa. This option is ideal for those who prefer to conserve energy for exploring the lake area. Please let us know in advance if you wish to reserve a horse.
The hike is considered moderate to challenging, depending on your fitness level. It involves approximately 2 hours of ascent from Soraypampa (3,850 m / 12,631 ft) to the lake (4,200 m / 13,779 ft). The trail is steep in some sections, but the stunning views make the effort absolutely worthwhile.
We recommend bringing comfortable hiking shoes, a light jacket, a rain poncho, sun protection, water, and snacks. Hiking poles are not included, but they can be reserved for $25 each for extra stability on the steep sections.
The tour starts with pick-up between 4:00 am and 4:30 am from your accommodation in Cusco. You will return to the city around 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm, finishing at Plaza San Francisco.
