Itinerary
Airport pickup and transfer to hotel in Cusco. The morning will be free to rest and acclimate. At 1:30 pm, pick-up from the hotel for a 4-hour tour; a guided visit to the Santo Domingo Convent and Qoricancha, followed by a visit to the Incan archaeological remains located on the outskirts of Cusco in Sacsayhuaman, Q’enqo, Pukapukara, and Tambomachay. Afterwards, we return to Cusco.
As the first stop on our tour, we will visit the colonial city of Chinchero. Here, we’ll spend approximately 1,5 hours visiting a craft store in the town center, exploring the archaeological remains, and visiting the main plaza. Next, we’ll head to our second archaeological area located in the town of Maras, where we visit terraces of Moray, and Salineras (salt mines), where we will spend about 2 hours.
Continuing the tour, we’ll proceed to Urubamba, where you’ll enjoy an exquisite buffet lunch. After a brief rest, we will head to the Ollantaytambo Fortress to discover its impressive Temple of the Sun, with this portion of the tour lasting around an hour.
Finally, we’ll visit Pisac, an incredible Incan city known for its beautiful temples, palaces, and well-preserved terraces built on cliff edges that still retain their straight aqueducts. After concluding our visit, we will return to Cusco, arriving around 7:30 pm.
Early pick-up from your hotel, enjoy breakfast in Mollepata, and then begin your hike from Soraypampa (3850 m / 12,631 ft). Here we’ll meet our muleteers and horses, who will carry all the camping equipment, and then start our trek towards Humantay Lake (4200 m / 13,779 ft).
After visiting Humantay Lake, we’ll return to Soraypampa and begin the hike to our basecamp at Salkantaypampa. Our chefs will greet you there with a delicious lunch. This location offers stunning views of the Salkantay mountain, where you can enjoy tea in the afternoon followed by a delightful dinner.
Wake up to a cup of coca tea and enjoy breakfast with fantastic mountain views. Then, embark on a 3-hour hike to reach the highest point of the Salkantay Pass at 4600 m (15,092 ft). From there, we walk downhill towards Wayrac Machaq for lunch.
We continue by descending into the high jungle where you can observe large trees with their branches extending over streams, all filled with bromeliads and orchids. We then descend further to reach our second campsite.
Wake up early and have breakfast before we begin a 3-hour hike through the cloud forest. Enjoy the fantastic landscape of rivers and waterfalls. After lunch, continue hiking for another 3 hours to reach the Lucmabamba campsite.
At Lucmabamba, you will have the opportunity to participate in zip-lining activities. After returning to the camp, you can also enjoy activities in coffee plantations and learn about the coffee-making process.
- If you wish, you can visit the Cocalmayo hot springs, which are located 30 minutes from our campsite (transportation and extra entrance fees not included, book in advance)
Wake up to a hearty breakfast and begin the hike towards Llactapata, where you’ll enjoy excellent views of the landscape and Machu Picchu. Afterward, descend to Hydroelectric for lunch, followed by another 3-hour walk to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town).
Tonight, you stay in a hotel in Aguas Calientes.
After breakfast, we head to the citadel of Machu Picchu for a guided tour of the different sectors, lasting about 2 hours. You’ll then have some free time to enjoy the lost city before descending by bus to Aguas Calientes to catch the return train to Ollantaytambo and then onward to Cusco.
