The 2-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is the ideal option for those who wish to experience this historic route in a shorter time. With only 16 kilometers, the hike offers a mix of breathtaking natural landscapes, from high jungle to Inca ruins, bringing you closer to the iconic citadel of Machu Picchu while enjoying the beauty of the surroundings.
This tour allows you to walk along ancient Inca trails, with spectacular views of the Urubamba River and the surrounding mountains. Arriving at the iconic Sun Gate (Inti Punku), you will have your first glimpse of Machu Picchu, a unique experience that only the Inca Trail can offer.
The 2-day Inca Trail experience combines the best of train travel with an unforgettable scenic hike. On the first day, you will enjoy breathtaking scenery as you hike the trail, and the following day, you will explore the majestic Machu Picchu, one of the wonders of the world. This fusion of adventure and exploration allows you to live a unique and accessible experience in a short time.
Hotel pickup to the train station. Train ride (~1.5 hrs) to kilometer 104, where we will begin our hike to the archaeological site of Chachabamba. From there, we will continue hiking to the archaeological site of Wiñayhuayna, where we will enjoy lunch before continuing our hike to Inti Punku (Sun Gate).
Here, we will have our first view of Machu Picchu before heading to the entrance control of the Machu Picchu citadel, where the bus will take us down to Aguas Calientes. We will spend the night here, have dinner, and prepare for the next day’s visit to Machu Picchu.
After breakfast ~5 am, we will board the bus to the Machu Picchu citadel, where we will have a guided tour of the different areas for about 2 hours, followed by a brief time to enjoy the citadel before descending by bus to Aguas Calientes to board the train back to Ollantaytambo and then to Cusco.
Note: If you wish to visit Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, you must book at least three months in advance due to limited availability. This activity is optional (US $70.00).
The tour lasts 2 days and 1 night, crossing mountains, ruins, and stunning landscapes until reaching Machu Picchu.
It is not essential to be in excellent physical condition to do the Short Inca Trail, but having a basic fitness level is recommended. The trail includes challenging sections, so moderate preparation will allow you to enjoy the hike without difficulties.
During the Short Inca Trail, we will stay at a 3-star hotel in Aguas Calientes, where you can rest comfortably after a day of hiking.
It is important to bring comfortable trekking clothes, hiking boots, a rain jacket, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a light backpack to carry your personal belongings.
The tour ends at Inti Punku (Sun Gate), where you will have a spectacular view of Machu Picchu. From there, we will descend to the citadel for a guided tour.
