Itinerary

Adventure, culture, and nature

The journey begins with an early pickup from your hotel, followed by a delicious breakfast in Limatambo. We will then begin the hike towards the Qoyllor community, continuing until we reach the stunning lagoon. After crossing it, we’ll arrive at Qoyllor Pass, where we will meet our muleteers and horses, who will take care of transporting the camping equipment while we proceed towards Inkachiriasqa lagoon.

After exploring Inkachiriasqa lagoon, we will head towards our base camp, Salkantaypampa, at the foot of the Salkantay Glacier, where our chef will be waiting with a delightful lunch. From this point, we can enjoy panoramic views of the majestic Salkantay Glacier. In the afternoon, we will relax with a cup of tea, and in the evening, indulge in an exquisite dinner.

Wake up with a cup of coca tea and enjoy breakfast with fantastic views of the mountains. Then, we will embark on a 3-hour hike or horseback ride to reach the highest point of Salkantay Pass, at 4,600m (15,091 feet). From there, we will descend to Wayrac Machaq for lunch. We will continue through the high jungle, where you will see large trees with branches extending over streams, adorned with bromeliads and orchids, on our way to our second camp.

Wake up early and have breakfast before starting a 3-hour hike through the cloud forest, offering fantastic views of rivers and waterfalls. After lunch, another 3 hours will take us to Lucmabamba camp, where you can try zip-lining and/or relax in the hot springs (both optional, with transportation/payments not included; please inform in advance). Upon returning to the camp, you can participate in activities related to coffee plantations and processing.

Wake up to an excellent breakfast and begin the hike towards Llactapata, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the landscape and a first glimpse of Machu Picchu. Then, you will descend to Hydroelectric for lunch before continuing on a 3-hour walk to Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Town. Tonight, you will stay in a hotel.

After breakfast, we will head to the Machu Picchu citadel for a guided tour of the different sectors, lasting approximately 2 hours. You will have free time to explore the citadel before descending by bus to Aguas Calientes to catch the train back to Ollantaytambo, where our van will take you to Cusco.

Note: If you wish to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, you must book at least three months in advance due to limited availability. This activity is optional (US$70).

Details about the tour

Salkantay is a mountain located in the Andes Mountain Range in Cusco, Peru, with an altitude of 6,271 meters above sea level. Its name, Quechua “Salkantay,” means “wild mountain” or “cold mountain” due to its extreme climate. It is considered an “Apu” in Andean cosmology, a protective deity revered by local communities. Geographically, it features a diverse landscape, ranging from high-altitude grasslands to cloud forests. The Salkantay Trek is a popular hike that takes travelers from the high mountains to Machu Picchu. This route offers a more remote and challenging experience than the traditional Inca Trail. The mountain is a sacred and majestic symbol of the Andean region.

Although it is not necessary to be a professional athlete, we recommend having moderate physical fitness, as the trek includes mountainous terrain and high altitudes, which can be demanding.

Reservations can be made directly through our website, by calling our contact number, or by sending a message via WhatsApp (989645889). You can also email us at (grupocondetravel@gmail.com) with the details of the tour you want.
