Itinerary
Early pick-up from your hotel, enjoy breakfast in Mollepata, and then begin your hike in Soraypampa (3900 meters above sea level), where we’ll meet our horsemen and horses, loading all the camping equipment. We’ll start our trek to Humantay Lagoon (4200 meters above sea level).
After visiting Humantay Lagoon, we’ll return to Soraypampa, where our chef will be waiting with lunch. Next, we’ll head to our Salkantaypampa base camp, where we can appreciate the stunning views of Salkantay mountain, indulge in an afternoon tea, and savor a delightful dinner.
Wake up to a cup of coca tea and enjoy breakfast with fantastic mountain views, then reach the highest point of the Salkantay Pass at 4600 meters in 3 hours. From there, we will walk towards Wayrac Machaq for lunch. Later, we will continue towards the high jungle, where we will observe large trees with their branches extending over streams, all filled with bromeliads and orchids. Finally, descend to the second campsite.
Wake up early and have breakfast; we begin a 3-hour hike through the cloud forest. Admire the fantastic landscape of rivers and waterfalls; walk downhill to Hydroelectric for lunch and continue walking another 3 hours to Aguas Calientes. Tonight, you will stay at a hotel.
Upon reaching kilometer 104, where we commence our hike towards the archaeological remains of Chachabamba, the trail continues to lead us to the archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna. Here, we’ll enjoy lunch before pressing on with the trek to Inti Punku (Sun Gate), offering our first glimpse of Machu Picchu. Following this, we head to the control and entrance gate of Machu Picchu, where a bus takes us downhill to Aguas Calientes. We’ll spend the night here, have dinner, and prepare for the next day, which includes our visit to Machu Picchu.
After breakfast, we will board the bus to the Machu Picchu citadel, where we will have a guided tour of the different sectors for around 2 hours. Afterward, there will be a short time to enjoy the citadel before descending by bus to Aguas Calientes to catch the return train to Ollantaytambo and then to Cusco.
Note: If you wish to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, you must book at least three months in advance due to limited availability. This activity is optional (US $70.00).
